Pony boy Curtis- The narrator of the story. Ponyboy’s love for literature and academics make him different from the rest of the gang. He’s also the youngest. Because his parents died in a car accident, Ponyboy lives with his brothers. His oldest brother accuses him of lacking common sense but, ponyboy is a reliable and observant character. 2. Sodapop Curtis- Ponyboy s 16-going-on-17-year-old brother. He is a high school dropout and works at the local gas station. He looks after his younger brother Ponyboy. He prizes his sleek black-handled switchblade. Significant settings and a brief statement Ponyboy leaves us with a vague description of the town where the story takes place. Eastside, Westside: Eastside is the poor side of town and Westside is Soc side of town with wealthier people. The church: The church is smack dab in the middle of that pastoral setting, situated at the top of a hill. Pony and Johnny can feast their eyes on the countryside stretching out beneath them. Yet, they re still isolated and outside of society, just like this church. It presents a gloomy contrast to the brightness of nature around them. Ponyboy has stopped going to church because the gang misbehaves in the church. Drive-in Movie: The gang all sneak into the local drive in movie this is an important place.
